How to Remove Violations From a Driving Record in New Jersey
- 1). Obey all traffic laws and keep your driving record clean. Maintaining a violation-free record for 12 consecutive months will result in the removal of three points from your license. For every 12-month period you remain violation free, another three points will be removed.
- 2). Enroll in a defensive driving course. Attend a course in person or enroll in an online program. Expect to spend a minimum of around $50 to take the course. Complete six hours of classroom time reviewing traffic laws, watching safety videos and completing short assignments.
- 3). Take the multiple choice quiz offered at the end of the course. Completing and passing the quiz results in a certification of completion. New Jersey driving schools -- online or otherwise -- automatically report your certification to the Motor Vehicle Commission where you will receive a two-point reduction on your license.
