Is an Email Telling Someone You Hate Them a Crime?
Hate Email
- Writing an email telling someone that you hate them is easy to do because it merely entails clicking the "Send" button on an email program. In addition, the Internet empowers people by giving them a sense of anonymity. Even so, an email message can be printed out, copied or forwarded to other people, and your words may linger in cyberspace for many years. While you have free speech and can write pretty much what you want in an email, if a hateful email crosses the line into harassment or cyberstalking, it could be prosecuted as a crime.
