What Are the Causes of Tiredness and Fatigue?
- Always being on the go is not the only reason a person can feel both tired and fatigued. Some of the reasons a person can experience symptoms of being tired and fatigued include: depression, lack of sleep, poisoning, anemia, work problems, pregnancy or illness.
- Some physical causes for being fatigued and tired include having a body weight that is too low or too high. An overweight person's body has to work harder to complete everyday activities, while an underweight person has less muscle to complete a task and has to work harder, thus making them tired.
- A person can encounter life events that can take a toll on their mental stability. These events are referred to as stressors. Stress is a feeling that a person experiences as they react to certain situations. Constant worrying of demands and pressures of both the past and the future takes a lot of energy and can cause a person to be both fatigued and tired.
- Lifestyle can be another major cause of tiredness and fatigue. One part of a person's lifestyle is their job. Doctors, nurses, police and those defined as shift works often experience fatigue because of the structure of their work hours. These occupations often work 12- or 24-hour shifts requiring them to be up for extended periods of time, therefore leaving them both tired and fatigued.
- Tiredness and fatigue is defined and described as discomfort, lack of energy, sleepy, poor concentration and lack of or loss of motivation.
