Add a Touch of French Country to Your Home
I chose to paint a scene of birds resting in the light branches of a young tree on the inside of our master bathroom door.
Including a scripture from the Bible, Luke 12:24 to give the room a calming atmosphere.
This fits so perfect with the painting of birds and serves as a source of inspiration.
As I take a relaxing bath, I read the verse "Consider the ravens; they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; Yet God feeds them.
And how much more valuable are you then the birds.
" Every time I see it I am reminded that God is in control and is watching out for me.
You can do the same with one that means something special to you.
Adding a favorite verse, poem or quote will personalize it and set the feeling you want in the space.
I also painted one cabinet door in my office, to add interest and life to the room.
I chose the corner cabinet which is set at a 45 degree angle.
Remember to not over do it.
Pick one or two things in a room that you want to make points of interest.
Adding a little is huge! Adding more is often just that, more, and can distract from the peaceful feeling you want to convey.
Start by taking the door off the hinges and lightly sand it down.
Make sure to remove the shine.
Lay the door flat on a raised platform to make it easy to reach, and easy on your back.
Primer and paint with a flat paint.
(I do this because I am a water color artist and this is the best base I have found for my medium.
) Then make a light sketch of what you want on the door, then paint away.
When the painting is complete and dry, I sometimes lightly sand the edges to give it the antique French Country look I love so much.
Be careful not to damage the painting when sanding.
To finish it off, spray several coats of clear spray paint over the entire door face to seal it from any water damage.
If you are not a painter, but you have a friend who is, try doing a trade.
Do something you are good at in trade for the talents they have.
Trade work for work.
I have done this so many times in my life that I have lost count.
From trading baby dolls for firewood, to re-upholstery for computer help.
Bartering is such an excellent way to save money!
