National Aviation Scholarships
- Advocacy organizations for companies in the aviation industry can be a resource for career guidance as well as financial supports. The NAAA/BASF Agricultural Aviation Scholarship awarded by the National Agricultural Aviation Association is a $5,000 award as of publication. It is granted to an NAAA sponsored applicant to be used for flight training or agricultural studies at a college or university or apprenticeship program. The National Business Aviation Association awards several scholarships for tuition reimbursement for students taking coursework towards a career in aviation. The NBAA also awards funding for training for professionals already in the industry.
- Organizations dedicated to youth activities and education can be a resource for educational opportunities as well as scholarships. Dedicated to bringing students into the aviation field, youth program Aviation Exploring awards the National Aviation Explorer Scholarships. Applicants must be a member of an Aviation Exploring post, provide letters of recommendation and submit a five-hundred word essay outlining the student's educational finance plan. At time of publication, awards range from $3,000 to $10,000.
- Departmental and university scholarships are also resources for financial aid. Students should contact a school's financial aid department directly to inquire about general scholarships. Scholarships that focus on coursework specific to aviation can often be found on the department's website or by contacting their offices. The College of Education at Oklahoma State University offers several scholarships applicable to aviation students. For example, the Colonel Glen Nemecek Scholarship is awarded to an aviation education student with a 3.0 GPA that can demonstrate financial need. Other universities, such as the Ohio State University, offer a detailed compilation of third-party scholarships available to students.
- Organizations that encourage the advancement of a specific audience, such as minority populations or women, can be a financial resource. Specific to aviation, Women in Aviation International is a non-profit organization established to encourage women to pursue a career in aviation. Today, their programs provide networking, support and scholarships to both men and women. A scholarship applicant must be a member of Women in Aviation International, provide letters or recommendation, a personal essay and academic transcripts.
