How to Detox My System With Vitamins
- 1). Reduce free radical load on the liver. As the liver uses chemical processes to break down toxins and render them inert, natural free radicals are created within the body as a side effect. To protect the body from these internal free radicals, take supplements such as Vitamin E 200 IU, Vitamin C 1000 mg, selenium 50 mcg and beta-carotene 250 mg. Foods that are deep and rich in color, such as red grapes, eggplant, fresh berries, carrots and purple cabbage, are rich in antioxidants and vitamins as well. Get plenty of these each day in your diet.
- 2). Support liver function with a complex of B vitamins. These are essential for the detoxification processes; the liver will use them to get the job done. Especially important vitamins to take are B2 100 mg, B3 50 mg, B6 100mg and folate 200 mg.
- 3). Support proper kidney function to enable elimination of toxins through the urine. Taking 5000 IU of Vitamin A (or 250 mg of Beta-carotene) protects soft tissues of the kidneys and prevents infection, as well as prevents kidney stones. Vitamin B6 will help the body excrete acids and support mood and sleep while detoxifying. Take 100 mg of Vitamin B6 within a B complex, or by itself.
- 4). Increase amino acids in the diet or through supplementation. Amino acids are required for proper detoxification, especially methionine, glutamine and cysteine. These help the liver work more effectively, and also increase levels of glutathione, the body's most powerful antioxidant and detox agent. These are all found within meat, poultry, eggs, whey powder, sea vegetables and Spirulina.
