How to Make Clovers Out of Fabric
- 1). Draw or print a heart shape onto a piece of cardstock and cut it out. You can use any size heart, depending on the space available for your applique. Trace the heart shape four times onto felt with white chalk and cut them out.
- 2). Mount the foundation fabric onto an embroidery hoop and pull it taut. Pin down the hearts with the points nearly touching in the center.
- 3). Cut a length of embroidery thread and separate out two strands. Choose a thread that is either slightly lighter or darker than the felt color.
- 4). Stitch around each of the hearts using either a running stitch on the inside perimeter or a blanket stitch along the edge. Create a curved stem using a backstitch, beginning in the center of the points and extending out about 2 inches.
- 1). Draw or print a clover shape with the stem onto cardstock and cut it out. You can use either a three or a four-leaf shape.
- 2). Pin the shape to a piece of felt and either trace with white chalk or cut around the pattern.
- 3). Sew around the edges with a blanket stitch and embroidery thread and then sew three green seed beads in the center in a triangular formation.
