Elegant Wall Colors
- Shades of cream, ivory, beige and taupe are all notably classy wall colors. These colors can be paired with rich woods or neutral upholstered furniture to create an elegant room. Pops of color can be added, such as burnt sienna orange, and still maintain the overall feeling of elegance.
- Purple, particularly rich royal purple, plum, lavender and lilac, can all be used as an elegant wall color. Like with shades of ivory, purple should be combined with other shades, either lighter or darker, but in the same hue for a complete look. Shades of purples can also be mixed with shades of brown or gray that have purple undertones to create a truly polished room.
- Certain shades of blue, particularly darker ones, are popular for elegant rooms. Dark navy blues can be combined with grays or purples with blue undertones or even a beige with olive undertones. When decorating with blue, avoid certain colors such as red, which can detract from the overall goal of creating elegance.
- Reds, such as a rich cranberry or brick, create a warm, cozy and elegant feeling. Wall color can also be incorporated through use of wood paneling or wainscoting in warmer, red-toned woods such as cherry or cedar. Red --- no matter what shade --- can have a classic appeal when paired with other colors such as brown, gray or cream.
- Shades of gray create a classy, refined appearance. Gray can be combined with deeper shades of slate in the upholstery. Shiny, polished accent pieces in silver or oiled bronze can be used to complete the look. Ideal shades of gray to use include slate gray, light blue-gray, or deep charcoal gray.
- Surprisingly, when used as an accent wall color, black can add elegance and appeal to a room. Black is flexible and can be combined with many different colors for a touch of class. Colors that work well in a classy theme include slate gray, white, light gray, cream, ivory and lilac.
