Same-Sex Registered Partnerships In Hungary
- 1996: Both same-sex and heterosexual couples in an economic and sexual relationship are granted medical, funeral, pension and immigration rights. Couples were not required to register with the state.
- 11/6/07: Parliament rejects a same-sex marriage bill without debate.
- 12/15/08: The Hungarian Constitutional Court rejects a registered partnership bill approved by Parliament on December 17, 2007 for reasons that it duplicated marriage laws for opposite sex couples. New legislation specifically for same-sex couples was ordered.
- 2/12/09: Parliament approves a new registered partnership bill, giving same-sex couples all of the rights of marriage with the exception of adoption and surname rights. The law took effect on July 1, 2009.
