Today more than ever we hear about going green on all sorts of media.
For instance you see green issues mentioned in the news, on various websites, green blogs, green issues forums, and in your visits to your favorite coffee house or watering hole.
Of course, we all should be aware of our own environment and be sure not to pollute or in any way damage the air, water or ground that we use.
By reusing items instead of than discarding them we can all do our part.
The least that you can do is to send things to a proper recycling center for an environmentally safe disposal.
It seems almost inconceivable to think that starting my car and allowing it to run for 5 minutes to get the heating or air conditioner running has any kind of influence on our planet's pulse, but when you multiply that millions of times, there isn't any question that it has a severe effect.
Some states like New York have enacted laws about not leaving a vehicle on idle for more than a certain number of minutes.
Straightforward stuff that all of us do, or don't do, impact the earth's precious atmosphere.
How many times per week do you go to the coffeehouse and get your gourmet coffee in a paper or card board cup? You might have thought about what number of years it takes for that cup to decompose, but have you taken into account the energy which went into the manufacturing and transportation of that cup? Multiply that common event by millions every day and you see the problem.
When you come right down to it, this idea of going green is everyone's job, not just the big corporations.
It is a matter of scale to hold the big guys feet to the fire for maximum results, but it also starts with each and every one of us as well.
Do you reduce, re-use and recycle? Make it a goal to lessen the quantity of trash you produce through recycling and composting.
Your town office or city hall will provide you with a list of how to separate your things for recycling.
Each and every item that you can re-use or recycle is one fewer item within the landfill.
Here's a tip, one of the simplest ways to help is actually to buy and utilize cloth shopping bags.
The hard part is actually remembering to get them out of the car and into the shop, but once you get into the habit, it will become second nature.
Resolve not to take plastic bags in a shop.
Keep your cloth shopping bags clean also, no one wants to see their food in a dirty old bac.
Sure, traveling in a gas-powered car as little as possible is certainly a sensible way to conserve.
Walking or taking a bike whenever and wherever you can will support the environment as well as your overall health.
If you live in the city, use the public transportation.
Likewise, if you live in a rural area, carpool to your workplace and instead of making several trips every week to run errands, save all of them for one journey.
You will find that if you make lists of things you need or want to do you will become very efficient at consolidating tasks and make fewer trips with your car.
If you take time to think about your daily activities, and how you can do them just a little differently, you may find yourself not only helping the environment, but also helping your wallet.
Do only full loads of laundry and dishes; cut your shower by a couple of minutes; switch to energy saving light bulbs; turn your refrigerator and air conditioner down just one degree and turning off the electric equipment at night are all painless tips on how to help.
Consider the possibility of utilizing alternate energy sources at the local level or perhaps purchase your electric power from alternative energy sources.
There should be a place to check on your power company bill to let them know that you prefer to purchase your energy from green sources.
It is a large investment to produce a wind turbine farm or a large solar power field, so you will reduce the cost by earmarking your power provider as coming from green suppliers.
Challenge yourself to think before you act for a few days and you will be pleasantly surprised at how effortless it is to start the process of going green.
