The Correlation Between the Elderly & AIDS

29
In today's world, more and more medical professionals are starting to consider the correlation between the elderly & AIDS.
AIDS is a condition that occurs in those that contract the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or "HIV".
This particular virus is considered to be "blood-borne".
Primarily, it is transmitted through receiving tainted blood through the means of a transfusion, sharing needles with an infected individual, sexual activity such as oral sex, vaginal sex, and anal sex.
In some instances, the virus may be transmitted from mother to child when the child passes through the birth canal or when the mother uses her breasts to feed the child.
While no one person is immune to this disease, there has not been much written or expressed on how the condition affects the elderly.
There are many older individuals that are being impacted in one way or another by this condition.
Several experience a direct effect due to the fact that they contract the illness themselves.
Then, there are those that deal with it on an indirect level by knowing others that contract the illness or HIV or transition from HIV to the last stages, AIDS.
Statistical figures have showed us that by the time that the 1990S rolled around, a total of 10% of all individuals affected by AIDS were fifty years old or older.
When it comes to the correlation between the elderly & AIDS, it is important to understand that many who actually have the virus do not realize it.
This is mostly due to the fact that the sufferer may contribute any symptoms that they have to the naturally aging process.
Common symptoms of this potentially deadly virus include, but are not at all limited to, moderate to severe fatigue, issues with the respiratory system, symptoms that are similar to the influenza, drastic weight loss, sweating at night, neurological complications, rashes that appear on the skin, and even pain that is persistent.
Due to the recent findings among those that work with the elderly & AIDS, it is important to ensure that the older individuals in our lives have regular testing performed to determine if they have AIDS.
