How to Improve a Car With Performance Chips
- 1). Park your vehicle. Open the hood and disconnect your vehicle's battery by loosening the negative battery terminal with a wrench and pulling the cable off of the battery.
- 2). Access the computer. In most cases, the computer is located on the passenger's side behind the glove compartment. Open the glove compartment and squeeze the tabs on each end of the glove compartment door. This will allow the door to drop down and out of the way. The computer will be revealed directly behind the door at the top of the dash. It will be a square silver box.
- 3). Remove the computer by detaching the retaining bolts from the mounting tray with a socket. Slide the computer towards the engine, then down and out of its mounting tray.
- 4). Turn the computer over and locate the access cover. Remove the two bolts that secure the cover with a socket. Open the cover. The Memcal (Memory Calibration) module will be directly below the cover.
- 5). Remove the Memcal module, to install the performance chip, by pressing the clips on each end of the module and lifting it out of the computer. Plug the Memcal module into the corresponding location on the performance chip and push the assembly back into position inside of the computer. When installed, the performance chip will be between the computer and the Memcal module.
- 6). Reassemble in the reverse order. Test-drive your new and improved higher-performance car.
