How Do I Erase a 1TB Mac Drive?
- 1). Click the "Finder" icon on your desktop Dock and click "Go" on the menu bar in the top left corner of the screen.
- 2). Select "Utilities" on the submenu to open the Utilities folder. Hold down the "Control" button on your keyboard and click the "Disk Utility" icon. Release the "Control" button and click "Open" on the pop-up menu.
- 3). Choose the 1TB hard drive in the side menu on the left side of the Disk Utility window and click the "Erase" tab in the main Disk Utility window.
- 4). Click the "Security Options" button and click the circle next to "Zero Out Data," "7-Pass Erase" or "35-Pass Erase." According to Macworld, the 35-pass option writes zeroes over your hard drive 35 times, which is the highest level of security but also the longest process.
- 5). Select "OK" in the lower right corner of the window to begin the zeroing out process.
