How to Germinate Crape Myrtle
- 1). Clean your seed flat or container with a solution of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Dry the container thoroughly.
- 2). Place seed starter mix into the flat. Moisten the mix slowly, making it just moist enough to hold together.
- 3). Remove the crape myrtle seeds from the capsules, and sprinkle them on the top of the soil. Press them in slightly with your fingers. Cover with a light coating of seed starter mix. Spray with water until damp. Cover the tray with plastic, and place it in a bright spot where temperature does not drop below 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 4). Place the flat into a larger container with at least 1 inch of clearance on all sides. Add water up to the rim of the larger container, and allow the water to soak into the soil. Remove the flat and allow it to drain until no water runs from the bottom. Place the flat back into its warm, bright spot. Spritz the seeds daily, and soak the flat when the soil becomes dry. Seeds should sprout in two to three weeks.
