How to Deadhead Knock Out Roses
- 1). Clip off the spent buds that you can see on the surface of the plant. Cut at an angle at the joint where a new stem branches off from the one you are removing. This prevents unsightly empty stems from protruding from the plant.
- 2). Pull branches gently apart and look among them and also around the bottom underside of the plant for additional spent blossoms that may be hidden from view. Clip them off in the same manner.
- 3). Clean all spent blossoms from the area and deposit them in a bag to go into the trash or compost bin. Allowing wet, dead blossoms to lay on the ground is not only unsightly, but they can provide a home for fungi.
