How to Cut Jade Into a Pendant
- 1). Trace your raw piece of jade onto a piece of paper.
- 2). Mark off the sections of the tracing that you will remove to make the shape of the pendant with a pencil of a different color than you used for the original tracing. This will let you plan the shape that you would like to make out of the pendant.
- 3). Replicate your design with a viewpoint from a few different angles. Mark off the measurements of the angles, lengths and widths. These sketches will be your guidelines for the carving.
- 4). Connect the roughest attachment that you have for your grinding wheel.
- 5). Grind down the areas of the jade piece that need to be removed in accordance with your sketches. Continue to do this until you have shaped the piece to the form of your design.
- 6). Replace the roughest grinding wheel attachment with one of medium roughness.
- 7). Grind the entire surface of the jade and focus on any smaller details that need to be ground out. The medium attachment will give the jade a smoother appearance than the roughest attachment provided.
- 8). Replace the medium grinding wheel attachment with your finest attachment. Smooth the entire surface of the jade with this attachment.
- 9). Cover the jade piece with olive oil. The oil will reveal any imperfections such as unwanted scratches, scuffs or dents that remain in the jade.

Wet a piece of 220-grit sandpaper with water. - 11
Work out any imperfections by sanding the surface of the jade with the wet 220-grit sandpaper. - 12
Wet a piece of 1200-grit sandpaper with water. - 13
Create a final shiny, smooth surface by sanding the jade piece with the wet 1200-grit sandpaper.
