Review of Weezer"s New Album, Hurley
Nerd rock founders Weezer are back the year 2010 with their eighth studio record.
Following the mixed reviews their earlier record Raditude got, what's to be expected with Weezer's new album, Hurley? 1) Memories An okay power-pop tune with a captivating chorus, and simple lyrics.
Includes backing vocals by the jackass boys! 2) Ruling Me On occasion the later Weezer tracks are slammed for not being deep enough, and this tune is not going to address that, however it's a fabulous, upbeat power-pop song.
3) Trainwrecks This is a much deeper, more less indulgent, slower tune with wonderful rock guitars and unapologetic hooks.
4) Unspoken Greatest piece on the record.
Starting up as a gentle and tender acoustic number, with a bit of atmospheric flute, it finishes with some extreme guitar! 5) Where's my sex? This is really a crunchier tune, but just with regards to the sound, not the lyrics.
This ain't about sex, but rather socks.
Somewhat unoriginal but the bridge is neat.
6) Run Away Intense and touching song, with an angsty, almost irate feeling.
The most emotional track on the CD, co-written along with Ryan Adams.
7) Hold On Remarkable demonstration of pop-rock.
The captivating repetition of the track grabs your mind and drags you along with it.
8 ) Smart Girls Tracks such as this are doubtless why the band sometimes get criticised.
You'll either adore it or hate it.
Feathery, run-of-the-mill and feels fabricated.
9) Brave New World This number has some spirit to it, but doesn't find a way to get anywhere.
You might skip this.
10) Time Flies Sounds practically like a demo, a nice track to sing along with, just a casual little song with a unique vibe to the other tunes of the album.
Score: 6.
5 / 10 Largely, a substantial development on the prior CD.
A good quality, positive pop record, if not pioneering or striking.
