How to Give a Vision Test
- 1). Print out a SNELL eye chart. There is a link to one below. You could make up your own chart, but the SNELL eye chart is made to tell whether you have 20/20 vision. In other words, if you make your own chart you will have to know how big to made each letter and how thick. Just printing this chart will save you time and will guarantee that you are giving yourself the best home eye test.
- 2). Measure out twenty feet. The vision test is based on what you can see at a distance of twenty feet. That is where the 20 in 20/20 vision comes from. Start measuring from the wall where you are going to place the chart. When you get twenty feet away, mark the line with a piece of chalk. Chalk will wipe away easily.
- 3). Hang the chart up on the wall and face level. This depends on the specific person's height. You can use the tape measure to help you do this if you can't eye ball it.
- 4). Get a friend and have her stand by the chart while you stand behind the chalk line.
- 5). Cover up the right eye and read the chart to your friend and make sure she is taking note of any mistakes you make.
- 6). Repeat Step 5, but cover up the left eye.
- 7). Go see a doctor if you have gotten any of the letters wrong.
