How to Reduce Software Maintenance

2
    • 1). Check the system requirements on the software packaging and compare it to what your computer is using. Your software must meet or exceed all of the requirements, otherwise it is going to run slowly or crash on your computer. Check what your system is running by clicking "Start," "Control Panel" followed by "System." Click the "General" tab and your system information appears at the bottom of the screen under "Computer."

    • 2). Delete old programs you are no longer using. This keeps your hard drive clean and free of old content and makes room for the current software to run smoothly.

    • 3). Open the program occasionally. If anything on your hard drive isn't accessed for a while, it could become corrupt due to files associated with the program being removed or written over.

    • 4). Open your Internet browser and navigate to the software's manufacturing page. Look up "Support," followed by "Downloads" and then select your software title. Check to see if there are any patch updates for the program. These patches range from correcting small glitches to allowing the program to run with a new printer model. The patch has a version number next to it and underneath it lists what the patch corrects.
