How to Get a Student Visa for Denmark
Prior to your arrival in Denmark as a student, you must apply for a Danish residence permit to study in that country as a non-EU/EAA citizen. EU/EAA citizens don't need a student visa for Denmark.
Requirements for Student Residence Permits in Denmark
In order to be issued a residence permit to study in any of the institutions in Denmark, such as the universities and colleges in Copenhagen, you must show written evidence that:
i) A Danish government approved university, college or institute has accepted you as a student to a higher education program or course.
ii) You are finishing a whole educational program provided by a Danish institution of higher learning or are a guest/visiting student attending a section of a program which you have already started in your country of residence.
iii) You can sponsor yourself financially for the period of your stay in Denmark. You must document the fact that you have already paid the tuition fee for the first semester or year, rather than documenting that you can finance yourself, if you are to pay a tuition fee. Be aware of the fact that there are no state grants or benefits for foreign students in Denmark. Your residence permit may be revoked and you risk deportation back to your country of residence, if you make false claim for such assistance.
iv) You can understand and also speak the language of instruction and have a functional command of German, English, Norwegian, Swedish or Danish at the same time.
How to Apply for a Danish Student Residence Permit
There is a prescribed form you must fill when applying for Danish student residence permit. Carefully fill out the application form because an error in the form can lead to the rejection of your application.
The process involved is as follows:
The second section of the application form will be filled by a representative of your educational institution in Denmark, attach the necessary document and forward same to you.
You will then fill the first section of the application form and attach your own supporting documents.
You will now finally submit the application at any nearest Danish embassy or general consulate in your home country. It is from there that it will be sent to the Danish Immigration Service for further processing.
Biometric residence cards is however required for all non-EU students. Therefore, all non-EU citizens who are 18n years and above must have their photographs, fingerprints as well as signatures recorded digitally when submitting their application for a Danish residence permit.
When applying for a residence permit or an extension, you have to pay a processing fee.
You can contact the International Office of the school you have been offered admission, if you have any problem applying for Danish residence permit. They will be more than happy to offer you the necessary assistance you may need.

There is only one admission period for the majority of study programs in Denmark. Therefore, for studies starting in the fall semester (September), make sure you submit your application before March 15. Nevertheless, if you cannot submit all the documents before March 15, you are still given the chance to complete your application before July 1, but you must confirm this option from your host university.

There is no tuition fee in Denmark student for students from Switzerland and EU/EEA countries. In the same vein, your studies in Denmark are free if you are taking part in an exchange program.
