Abuse in a romantic relationship can be defined as the physically, emotionally and or sexually mistreatment of one person towards the other, with the intention of controlling that person.
This mistreatment is not only taking place among older adults, it is taking place among teenagers as well.
When this is happening, most often than not and for one reason or another, victims of abuse do not tell their families and close friends about it.
However, parents can look for several signs if they suspect that their teenager is a victim of this crime.
Unexplained Physical Injury A bruise eye, arm, or anything else along this line, is the most obvious sign to look for.
If your child has physical marks that cannot be reasonably explained, please do not ignore it.
Personality Changes The personality of an abuse victim, most often than not, will change and not for the better.
For example, if the person is outgoing and usually expresses their thoughts and feelings, they can become, withdrawn, afraid and or uncertain about expressing their thoughts.
Drop in Grades This can affect your child's school grades by causing them to drop.
If this is taking place with your child, please do not ignore it.
Isolation Isolation is one of the methods that an abuser use to keep their victim in their gasp.
They will try to separate your teenager from his/her family and friends.
They may attempt to do so by demanding that your child spends all of their free and not so free time with them.
