Online Continuing Legal Education Becoming The Norm

1
The internet is popular; that goes even without having to say it. People use it for researching, buying products, shopping for groceries, watching their favorite movies or TV shows, and even educating themselves. Considering how many are getting their degrees online - both undergraduate and master's degrees - it makes total sense that other forms of education are being offered online. In this case, new and veteran attorneys alike are looking to online continuing legal education. That is all well and good, but is it even necessary? Was law school not enough?

It is not as simple as the questions imply. Yes, students of law have to go through a rigorous course load of classes, seminars, self-study and so on to be admitted into the bar in the first place. Do they deserve to be practice law once all is said and done? Absolutely. But they still have more to learn about the occupation they have chosen to pursue. Online continuing legal education lets them educate themselves even further. Plus, they are able to do so from the comforts of their own homes and/or offices.

Attorneys, regardless of whether or not they are new to the practice or have been doing it for years, are naturally busy people. Many, if not all, do not have the time to dedicate the time to travel to a lecture hall and then sit around. At online continuing legal education does allow lawyers to become more proficient at their work at their own convenience. Like other online courses given by accredited universities and trade schools, students enrolled in the program have access to course materials uploaded online by the faculty. In some cases, students may even be able to download whole lectures that were recorded when the lecturer was actually talking to his or her class. Lawyers sitting in their homes or offices can easily download said material from online, listen to them during their off hours, and continue their education.

With the convenience of online continuing legal education, busy lawyers still have the time for further instruction and can become better practitioners of the law. Credit is given to enrolled attorneys for educating themselves on topics like ethics, professional responsibility, prevention of malpractice, attorney-client disputes, and so on.

Personally, I would want an attorney who has taken on online continuing legal education. This means they are taking their profession very seriously and they can offer me the best representation possible.
