How to Create Your Own Candle Scents
- 1). Fill a bowl with 8 ounces of fragrance oil. Select a single oil that you prefer, or combine a few fragrance oils together. Whatever you choose, the oils need to equal 8 ounces when combined. Stick with similar or complementary scents. If you are using an orange fragrance oil, you can combine it with another citrus scent or a fragrance oil that has floral overtones. Do not combine the orange with a woody overtone, such as cedar or sandalwood. Citrus and floral are complementary, and floral and woody are complementary.
- 2). Add in 4 ounces of essential oil. As before, select an essential oil that is the same or complementary to the fragrance oils you are using.
- 3). Prepare the wax. Place 4 pounds of beeswax into the top half of a double boiler. Fill the base of the double boiler with water. Heat the water in the double boiler until the wax completely melts.
- 4). Pour in the candle scents that you created, and stir the wax well with a spoon.
- 5). Place weighted wicks into glass jars. Secure the wicks by clipping them in clothespins and resting the clothespins on the mouths of the jars. Pour the wax into the jars. Fill the jars nearly to the top. Allow the scented candles to cool for 6 hours before use.
