When I Sat Down to Write This Note
WHEN I SAT DOWN...
...
to write this note, I tried to think of a special way to say: "Happy New Year" to you.
But instead of writing, I began to think.
Lots of things crossed my mind like: All the new friends we've made this year, and the ones we see and talk to each week.
How some of us have untangled some pretty knotty problems.
The bright new plans we have for the New Year and the ways we intend to do a better job.
But, when I picked up my pen, I just couldn't get all these thoughts on paper, and the harder I tried, the worse I did.
So, I leaned back, put my feet up on the desk, half closed my eyes and thought some more.
Suddenly I got an idea! I said to myself, "All I really have to do is say: HAPPY NEW YEAR!" So here it is.
I hope you'll - read between the lines.
How often do you wish the people you write to would take the time to really understand what you write has a much deeper and more personal meaning than what they see on the paper? It would be nice if you could ask the reader to pause and stop reading each and every word.
What you want your reader to do is "read between the lines" and in that way the reader could understand what you have written has a meaning much deeper and more personal than mere words on paper can ever adequately express.
