Cheap Hostels and Budget Hotels for Manila, Philippines Travelers
There are plenty of budget hotel accommodations within a backpacker's budget in the Philippines' capital Manila, although not all hostels are created equal: real youth hostels like MNL Boutique Hostel and Our Melting Pot are often joined by budget hotels with "hostel" misleadingly placed in their names. (For a primer on what real hostels offer, read: Hostels 101 - What You Need to Know About Hostels.)
The hotels listed here are clustered in three general areas in the Philippines' capital: Makati (close to the city's main business district and the burgeoning tourist precinct in Poblacion); Malate (close to Roxas Boulevard, part of the old city of Manila); and Pasay (close to the airport).
MNL Boutique Hostel is a backpacker's accommodation in Makati that really walks the hostel talk: quirky little touches like huge numbers painted on the room doors, funky pop art in every room, a common area where guests can meet and mingle, and "BYOB nights" almost every night, where the owners set up folding tables and chairs on the street outside, and let the guests enjoy the grand Filipino tradition of "tambay sa kanto" - basically just drinking in public on the street corner.
12 rooms come in two classes - seven private rooms and five dorm rooms, with a total of 40 beds (all spring mattresses, furnished with hotel-grade linens). Common bathroom features luxe touches like rainshowers in every stall and pebble floors. A jeepney stops right outside the hostel, allowing easy access to the MRT and to the rest of the city.

Its dorm and private rooms are located right across A.Venue mall, in a bustling tourist spot near Burgos Street's bar scene and a jeepney/MRT ride away from the rest of Manila's attractions. At the end of the day, you can unwind at the rooftop bar with new friends.
The managers are backpackers, too, and can offer travel advice and tips; they'll help organize tours of local attractions upon request.
