Chloe arrives at the hospital to see Lucas, noting how upset Sami looked earlier. She presents him with some magazines, such as Redbook. Lucas states that Redbook is for women. Chloe tells him not to be sexist, pointing out that Kate advertises in it. Additionally, she brings him car magazines along with two pounds of pistachios. She vows to be there for Lucas until he’s back on his feet. “Well, I wonder what Sami would have to say about that,” announces Maggie.
Lucas tells Maggie that Sami knows Chloe is there and left a few minutes ago. Maggie gives Lucas a big hug and has brought some of Alice’s donuts. Chloe leaves to fetch some coffee.
Maggie can’t believe Sami left him alone with Chloe. Lucas believes it’s time for him and Sami to take a break from one another. Maggie wonders why, since he loves her. “I guess sometimes love just isn’t enough,” replies Lucas. Maggie disagrees, believing that love gets them through the tough times. Lucas laments how he and Sami have had more than their share of tough times. He explains how draining and exhausting it is loving Sami all the time, since he never knows what kind of mood she’s going to be in. “And uh, Chloe’s the answer?” she questions, as she reveals that she knows what happened between him and Chloe. Lucas rants how he hates the town, since nothing’s a secret. Maggie encourages him not to throw everything away that he has with Sami just because he got caught with another woman. Lucas admits he doesn’t know what he has with Sami anymore.
Maggie advises him to slow down and recover before he makes any life-changing decisions. Lucas refers to Chloe as different than Sami and realizes what it’s like to be in a calm, caring, supportive relationship. “Isn’t that what loving someone’s really all about?” he questions. Maggie understands what he’s saying about Chloe, but reminds him that he has a long history with Sami. Lucas insists that he needs to go somewhere and recharge.
Maggie hands Lucas the key to the Horton cabin on Smith island, which is very quiet and very isolated. She believes it’s the perfect place for him to recuperate. Lucas thanks her. Maggie assures him that she’d do anything for him. Lucas agrees that they’ve always shared a very special connection, especially since she’s his AA sponsor. He rehashes how he kept thinking about Allie in prison and how she might’ve felt he abandoned her if he had died. Maggie asks him to think long and hard about his feelings for Sami, since she’s been the love of his life and he has so much invested with her. He promises he will. Chloe lurks just outside. Maggie thinks spending time alone on Smith island will be the best thing for him. Lucas agrees to go.
Chloe enters and brings Lucas green tea. Maggie gets her cue to leave and whispers for him to enjoy his time alone. She hugs Lucas and says goodbye to Chloe. Lucas tells Chloe that Maggie gave him the key to the Horton cabin on Smith island, believing that he needs to spend time alone and figure out what he really wants.
Bo enters Philip’s room and asks how he’s feeling. “Like a lab rat after all those tests,” replies Philip, who asks about Victor. Bo says he’s having a tough time but he’s hanging in there. He reveals that the police got an anonymous email inquiring about the missing evidence in the Hollingsworth case that alluded to a cover-up. Philip admits he’s not surprised, since he got a note at home which stated, “I know your secret.” Bo surmises that someone knows what he did, and that person is after both of them. Philip insists that it’s John, who is doing everything he can to try and intimidate them. Bo expresses how happy he was to find out Philip was innocent, since it helps him feel less guilty about covering up evidence. He admits he loves his ma and pop, but Victor is his biological father and he and Philip are Victor’s flesh and blood. Bo admits that when Philip came to visit him in the hospital, it was the first time their relationship felt real. Philip agrees and assures Bo that they’re family. Bo laments how he not only put his career at risk, but put both of his families at risk by walking away from the evidence. “Bo, I will never forget what you did for me. I am so sorry,” expresses Philip. Bo assures him that there’s no need to apologize, since it was his decision and the consequences are his responsibility. Philip laments putting him in a terrible position. He doesn’t see how John can know anything about the missing evidence and suspects there has to be a trail leading back to John. Philip assures Bo that he has his back. Bo begins to say something, but then heads out.
At the DiMera mansion, Nicole has just revealed to E.J. that Trent forced her to stop seeing him. Nicole insists that she only went along with it because she thought he would tell people they were still married. “Wow. What a son of a bitch,” remarks E.J, who wonders what Trent cares who she’s with. Nicole refers to Trent as a control freak who thinks he owns her. She recalls how young, naive, and vulnerable she was with Trent, and did whatever he asked. She fears losing everything if Victor finds out she’s still married to him. E.J. kisses her forehead and thanks her, expressing how it means a lot to him that she trusts him enough to tell him the truth. “The truth is I hated pushing you away,” she confesses. He wonders if the situation gets out, where will that leave them. Nicole professes how she would love more than anything to make it work between them, but fears that if Trent saw them out on a date, he would make good on his threat. She expresses how hard it is for her because she knows they would make a great team. E.J. reminds Nicole what a fighter she is and assures her that they will put their heads together and be fine. He believes that if she digs deep enough, she’ll find skeletons in anybody’s closet. Nicole smiles deviously as she reveals that Max Brady is Trent’s biological son.
