Identify a diamond shape in the pattern of your fabric to begin. Use the corners of the diamond as your four points to stitch. Pull the needle from the bottom of the fabric to the front at the top corner of the diamond. Put the needle down through the left corner of the diamond.

    • 3). Pull the needle back up through the left corner of the diamond slightly below the previous stitch. Continue this through all four corners of the diamond counterclockwise. Down through the bottom corner, back up through the bottom corner, just a little to the side. Down through the right corner and back up through the right corner. Finish the stitch with the needle going down through the top corner of the diamond.

    • 4). Pull the thread taut and tie off after the first. Trim the thread near the knot.

    • 5). Continue the diamond shaped stitches across an entire row then create a second row with alternating points. Continue this until you have smocked the desired amount of fabric.
