How to Create a Floral Vector

    Google Docs

    • 1). Open the Google Docs home page in your browser, and then click the "Create new" button. Click "Drawing" to indicate you want to create a new vector drawing.

    • 2). Click the tool palette icon showing a circle and square to open a gallery of shapes. Click the shape that looks like a flower petal, and then drag on the canvas to draw the petal.

    • 3). Click the tool palette icon shaped like a paint bucket to open the tool for filling shapes with color. Click a green color from the window that appears.

    • 4). Press "Control" and "C" simultaneously, and then press "Control" and "V" simultaneously to duplicate the petal shape. Drag the duplicate's circle icon to rotate the shape slightly.

    • 5). Use the previous Step's instructions to create a ring of petals to form a floral motif, and then drag your mouse to surround all petals. Right-click the mouse and click "Group" to link the petals together.

    • 6). Use Step 4's instructions to create as many duplicates of the floral motif as you'd like.

    Inkscape

    • 1). Click the tool palette icon shaped like a nib pen to run the tool for creating paths, which are smooth vector curves.

    • 2). Click the mouse on the canvas, and then drag and click to form a chain of points that outline a flower petal. Close the shape by clicking the starting point after forming the petal.

    • 3). Click the "Fill" command from the "Object" menu, and then click a green color from the palette that appears.

    • 4). Press "Control" and "C" simultaneously, and then press "Control" and "V" simultaneously to duplicate the petal. Drag one of the curved handles attached to the duplicate's bounding box to rotate the petal slightly.

    • 5). Use the instructions from Step 4 to create additional petals for a floral design. Drag a selection region around all petals, and then press "Control" and "G" simultaneously to link the petals to each other.

    • 6). Use Step 4's instructions to create additional duplicates of the floral pattern.

    Illustrator

    • 1). Click the ellipse icon from the tool palette, and then drag on the canvas to create an ellipse.

    • 2). Click the tool palette icon shaped like a "<" character to run the tool for converting curved vector segments to straight ones.

    • 3). Click one of the points on the ellipse to make two of its segments straight. This turns the ellipse into a flower petal.

    • 4). Click the upper color swatch at the bottom of the tool palette, and then click a green color from the color palette to color the petal.

    • 5). Press "Control" and "C" simultaneously, and then press "Control" and "V" simultaneously to duplicate the petal. Drag in a circular motion outside the petal's bounding box to rotate the petal slightly.

    • 6). Use the instructions from Step 5 to create a flower design from new duplicates of the original petal.

    • 7). Drag a rectangular shape around all petals to select them, and then click the "Object" menu's "Group" command to link the petals.

    • 8). Create additional flower designs with Step 5's duplication instructions.
