What are the Signs & Symptoms of the H1N1 Flu?
- H1N1 is a type of flu that has many of the same signs and symptoms of the regular flu. In 2009 the World Health Organization gave H1N1 pandemic status. It was given the nickname "swine flu" because of its similarity to flu often found in pigs.
- It can be difficult to identify the H1N1 virus without a visit to the doctor. The symptoms for this virus mimic those of regular influenza. The main difference in symptoms between regular influenza and H1N1 are that the virus is more severe in children than adults.
- Symptoms of the H1N1 flu can be internal and external. Internal symptoms include fever, respiratory problems, headaches, sore throat, chills and extreme fatigue.
- External symptoms can include: diarrhea, vomiting, runny nose, coughing and damp skin due to fever.
- H1N1 is a highly contagious form of flu possibly due to the large amount of child cases and the fact that the illness can be spread before symptoms occur. The best way to prevent the illness is to stay away from the sick and to frequently wash hands.
