How to Notify People of a New Address
- 1). File a change of address with the United States Postal Service. This will ensure your mail is forwarded to your new address.
You can file a change of address online by visiting www.usps.com. You can also file by telephone (1-800-275-8777) or at your local post office. - 2). Contact your family, friends and business contacts by telephone. Notify them of your new address and ask them to update their records.
Follow up with a short invitation-style letter (optional) a few days after the telephone call. - 3). Update your address with your creditors, and for any other accounts you have (including bank accounts, utilities and magazine subscriptions). You can usually update your billing or mailing address online. If you do, it's best to follow up with a phone call within 3 to 5 business days.
- 4). Visit the Department of Motor Vehicles near your new residence. Change the address on your driver's license. Most states require you to update your driver's license soon (usually 10 to 14 days) after moving.
