Technical advances in Rhinology ensures a minimal surgical intervention

Sinusitis is the result of an inflammation of the membranous lining of one or more of the sinuses. The causes can be many but all of that leads to an obstruction in the sinus cavity which in turn leads to infection.

Dr. Wade Wei Han is a renowned doctor at the Florida Ear Nose Throat and Facial Plastic Centre. He has received countless awards and honours especially in the field of ENT where he specializes. His MD degree from the University of Pennsylvania and postgraduate degree from Harvard Medical School, and years of practice in the field of ENT has given him much credibility to advise his patients on the topic.

According to Dr Han, Sinusitis is one of the common health problems, which affect almost 37 million people in the United States each year. It usually develops from a bout of cold or allergy and runs its course in a few days. However a bacterial infection or acute sinusitis may develop if symptoms persist. Chronic Sinusitis develops if the symptoms persist for more than three months. The patient then needs to be treated by medical therapy and /or sinus surgery.

Being a head and neck and Facial Plastic surgeon, Dr. Wade is capable of using the most advanced surgical procedures as well as correction of external deformity or infections. According to him, there have been huge advances in the field of Rhinology (study of nose and sinuses) in the past 20 years. This progress is a lot due to the tireless research of academic surgeons based at the University of Pennsylvania. Thanks to fibre optics and high imaging techniques, sinus surgery no longer involves skin or gum incisions and minimal bleeding in the hands of a skilled surgeon.

On the first visit, the doctor usually checks the sinuses for inflammation and the gums for inflammation in the Para nasal sinuses. He might also suggest diagnostic tests such as nose endoscopy, city scan of the sinuses, allergy testing, x rays and blood works.

The key to recovery is to go to an experienced surgeon who is equipped with the correct knowledge and accelerate the cure by adopting the correct procedure suited to the individual needs and symptoms of the patient.
