How to Make Movable Greeting Cards
- 1). Take one sheet of 8-by-12-inch cardstock and lay it down so one of the longer sides faces you. Fold this paper in half widthwise so the left edge matches up with the right edge. You're now looking at the front of the card. Pencil in the design you would like here.
- 2). Open the card and turn to the piece that is on the right side of the fold. This will be the main area that will feature the pop-up pieces. Place a sheet of carbon paper underneath this part of the card, with another sheet of cardstock underneath the carbon paper. Now draw the words and images you would like on the inside. Make words you want to have pop up using block or bubble letters so that they are large enough to cut out.
- 3). Remove the carbon paper and the sheet of cardstock underneath it. Cut the shapes out of this piece of cardstock. Use the remaining half of this sheet to cut a strip that is 1 inch by 1/2 inch for every shape you cut out.
- 4). Lay the paper strips in front of you so that the longer sides are facing you. Fold each strip widthwise, accordion style, at every 1/4 inch. Crease tightly so the folds stay in. Glue the end of one of these strips to the back of each shape, being careful that it doesn't show.
- 5). Glue the opposite end of each strip to the spot on the card where each shape goes. They should match up exactly with the drawings on the inside of the card. Allow the glue to dry. Then close the card. When you open it up, the shapes will move toward the person reading the card.
- 6). Decorate the card using markers, colored pencils, glitter, lace or any other materials. The cardstock should support a lot of embellishments.
