Macrinus
Definition: Macrinus was born c. 164, in Caesarea, Mauretania, and died June 218, in Bithynia. As a Roman emperor, Macrinus' claim to fame is that he was the first Roman emperor to have achieved that exalted status without having first been senator. Macrinus was a praetorian prefect under Caracalla in whose murder he was suspected of having been involved.
Macrinus was put into office by his army and then, when he lost the allegiance of part of his army, which then turned to support Caracalla's relative Elagabalus, Macrinus fled with the rest of his army, but he was captured and executed.
