Install Instructions for Trailer Hitch Buick Park Avenue 98
- 1). Support the Park Avenues exhaust system. Supporting the exhaust system can be done by using a second person to hold it or by positioning a solid object under it.
- 2). Remove the bolt from the exhaust systems hanger bracket with a torque wrench.
- 3). Loosen the nuts found on the top of bolt strap that attaches to the Buick's frame and bumper.
- 4). Remove the nut found on the bottom of the bolt strap.
- 5). Bend the bottom of the "T"-shaped strap away. The tab can be cut if needed.
- 6). Hoist the hitch into place on the Buick's frame. The holes in the hitch should align with existing holes on the frame.
- 7). Drill half--inch holes into the bumper. The holes should be where the bolt strap was previously located. The hitch can be used as a template for the holes.
- 8). Install nylon washers in between the blocks and bumper.
- 9). Install the half-inch carriage bolts, nylon washer and spacer into the previously drilled holes.
- 10
Install the remaining fasteners. Some holes may need to be enlarged with drilling. - 11
Install two spacers in between the exhaust hanger bracket and frame. The spacers should be sandwiched between the bracket and frame, acting as a buffer so the two do not rub on each other. - 12
Reattach the exhaust hanger bracket with the M10 bolts supplied by Curt. - 13
Tighten the bolts and fasteners. The M10 bolts should be tightened to 42 foot-pounds, the half-inch fasteners to 75 foot-pounds and the seven-sixteenths-inch fasteners to 50 foot-pounds.
