Five Reasons Why We Need to Worry About Cleaning Up Our Water Resources

4
Horror stories abound of people in developing countries who have to bathe, cook, drink, and relieve themselves in the same bodies of water.
It's enough to turn your stomach, and people who are forced by desperation to consume this water actually do sicken and die.
Filthy water is unsafe for humans and animals as well as a breeding ground for all types of insects.
Even though conditions in the United States aren't generally this dire, we all still need to be concerned about the substances that are finding their way into our water resources.
We have reason to worry, because there are a lot of reasons why clean water is vital to our continued existence.
1.
Are you aware that a large percentage of your body is made up of water? It can be as much as 70% of a person's makeup which is why people are encouraged to drink large quantities of water each day in order to compensate for the H2O that's either used by the body or passed from it.
The old saying says, "You are what you eat.
" That's true of the fluids you put into your body, too.
How would you like to think that you're putting viruses, pesticides and other chemicals, and waste materials into your body when you take a drink of water? Clean water is a must.
2.
Besides drinking water, stop and consider all the other uses you have every day for clean H2O.
We use it in cooking, for personal sanitary purposes, for cleaning, and for laundry.
All these activities touch you and the members of your family, and we all want to think that the water we use is safe and healthy.
3.
Have you ever traveled to a local lake or river planning on indulging in water sports only to find the water green, stinky, polluted, and totally unappealing? Many things get into our water, and if you can see and smell the results, you definitely aren't going to want to put your body into it.
4.
The same contaminated water that we don't want to play in can also be lethal to water animals and plants.
They need a clean, healthy environment in order to thrive.
We've seen graphic examples of what happened to these creatures when oil spilled into the Gulf of Mexico, and we know we have to take whatever steps are necessary to provide safer habitats.
5.
Scientists have told us that the supplies of fresh water are dwindling, and we may get to the point sometime in the future where there are worldwide shortages and even wars between nations for this precious commodity.
If we don't start employing conservation methods now, what kind of a world will we be leaving to our descendents?
