Emergency controls are important because the operator will need them in the event the machine malfunctions. Guardrails must be be in good condition to prevent the operator from falling off. You should always inspect the condition of the vehicle's tires and the general conditions of the hydraulic fluid and fuel-system before operating a lift. It is important that the lift is functioning properly before use. The lift must also have the manufacturer's warnings, operational, instructional and control markings in place.

    Visual Inspections, Positioning and Precautions
