Bar da Pracinha: Chilling Out in Rio"s Tijuca Forest

Updated on April 8, 2014

Bar da Pracinha is one of the coolest bars in Rio de Janeiro, and not just because it's historic and serves great breakfasts and feijoada.

The bar is located in the verdant Alto da Boa Vista, at nearly 1,150 feet above sea level. Alto da Boa Vista is almost entirely covered by the Tijuca rainforest, one of Brazil's most visited national parks.

Temperatures in Alto da Boa Vista can be several degrees cooler than by the shore.

In fact, it might be cozy and warm inside the actual bar if you decide to dine there in the winter. Bar da Pracinha is a rare place in Rio where a fireplace can be used. But the bar even has ponchos for diners who would like to sit outdoors and enjoy their dinner in the clean, crisp rainforest air.

Bar da Pracinha is actually called Bar Boavista for its location (Alto da Boa Vista means "Heights of the Good View"). But it's better known for its pracinha, a small square in front where kids can play.

Food and Drink at Bar da Pracinha

Breakfast and feijoada on weekends, fondue in the winter and great filet mignon every day are some of the highlights at the bar. The place is also a favorite stop for light appetizers and a cold beer after the beach. Recent additions to the menu include ostrich meat.
