  • 1). Chip off a small amount of paint from the side of the pool with a putty knife and take it to your pool paint dealer to find out the paint type. Only use the same kind of paint.

  • 2). Remove all the water from the pool according to the instructions for your pool. This usually includes removing the skimmers and pulling out the drain. Contact your local building regulations department to determine the best way to recycle the water.

  • 3). Sandblast your pool using the instructions included with your sandblaster. Sandblasters are available from some hardware stores for rental.

  • 4). Clean the pool walls with trisodium phosphate and a sponge. Wear gloves and eyewear when scrubbing.

  • 5). Rub the walls with muriatic acid and a sponge after the trisodium phosphate. Allow it to soak into the wall according to the manufacturer instructions.

  • 6). Rinse the walls with clean water. Apply one more scrub of trisodium phosphate then rinse again with water.

  • 7). Apply one layer of primer to the wall using a paint roller if painting with epoxy paint. Apply the primer by rolling vertically. You do not need to prime if you are using chlorinated rubber paint.

  • 8). Apply two coats of paint using a roller, applying vertically. Allow to dry for the recommended time before filling the pool.
