What you may not know about termites is that newly built homes are just as susceptible to damage as older homes.
But what's even worse is that termites cost more money than you would expect because termite damage is not covered by homeowners insurance! So the consequence of not being able to protect your home by preventing the termites could put you at a financial disadvantage without warning.

1. Make sure there is no wood contact with the ground.
   All wood connected to the home should be at least six inches from the ground, but eighteen inches is best.
   Check for wood to soil contact around your home that could provide termites hidden access into your home such as wood decks and steps, siding, posts, and lattice work.
   Also be sure to store firewood away from the home so that it has no direct contact with your home.
   Also, use mulch in moderation.
   
2. Since termites are attracted to moisture, prevent moisture from accumulating near the foundation of your home.
   To locate potential termites, signs to look out for are leaky A/C units, water pipes, and sprinklers that need to be repaired.
   Also check gutters, splash blocks, and downspouts.
   
3. Look for existing trees and stumps with termite damage and remove them.
   The ground surrounding your foundation should slope away from your house.
   
4. Ensure proper ventilation of crawl spaces by reducing humidity and ensure that landscape is not covering any vents.
   
5. Hire a professional and licensed pest control specialist.
   Schedule consistent home inspections to eliminate any termite worries and ensure protection of your home every year.
