Know About a Used Excavator

Excavators are heavy equipments used in construction which consist of boom, bucket and cab. Purchasing new excavators is very expensive but buying used excavators will cost less and save money from at least 25 up to 50 percent. In buying used excavators, buyer has to be cautious because even though the used excavator cost less, it could cost a lot in terms of repairs. In this article, buyer will be guided on what to inspect in buying used excavators.

The inspection for the used excavators has two phases. First phase is the physical inspection and in phase two is the operation inspection.

In physical inspection, the following should be check and test:

1. Check the engine. Examine the engine compartment for a sign of soot, the engine oil for a sign of leakages, for signs of corrosion in the battery, ensure that the air cleaning system are working, and check the cooling system.
2. Check the cab, stick, boom, and bucket. Inspect the cab interior for major and minor damages, check the bucket, check if there is any looseness between pins and bushing in the pivot point, and check the boom if the edge and stick is not twisted.
3. Check the track and undercarriage. Inspect the track for broken metal plates or suffered from tear, check the sprockets and rollers for each condition, check the level of the oil and driver's cleanliness, and check if the roller frame for signs of crack and repairs.

After having physical inspection, the operation of the used excavator is then inspected. The operation inspection is the starting of engine of the excavator after some warm ups, demonstration of functions of stick, boom, and bucket, checking of the performance of the tracks, and check the function of the swing system that includes gears and bearing.
