The play entitled the innocents opened at the local theater starring some local talents. At the set is a portrait, about which legends abound, about its supernatural ties. Someone who chooses to be unknown had held on to this portrait for years. She was traveling down the street when the picture in a shop window caught her eye and for some reason, still unknown to the owner she parked her car, went into the shop, and bought the picture.

Waiting for the clerk to take it from the window, she wondered how can she possibly afford buying that picture. She recalled the needs of her kids as they were coming back to school, especially supplies, books and clothes. Rehearsing in her mind, she would tell the clerk that while the piece of art was magnificent, her budget just won't allow her to get it. In a very loud voice, she yelled that she just had to purchase the portrait no matter what, stopping the clerk before she could return the portrait back in place.

She then got it hurriedly and walked out of the store, nervous about how her husband could possibly react when he finds out she compulsively bought such an unnecessary and expensive thing, while she also tried to figure out what made her go ahead and buy it. Its subject was a Russian wolfhound known as a Borzoi, painted using oil as medium, and it was done in the 1800's or the early 1900's, perhaps. It would be a wonder to someone trained to be familiar with this Russian wolfhound's features, why the artist chose to depict the dog in almost a straight on pose, where only its head and shoulders are painted but nevertheless it was a beautiful picture. There is not even proper proportion between the chest and shoulders.

This makes the fact that she bought the picture even more strange as she was very familiar with the breed and knew what a Borzoi should look like. That night, her husband arrived and found the picture hung against their wall but then instead of blowing up since his wife overspent for that painting instead of buying the needs of their children first, she was surprised that he felt exactly what she gad felt too when she first saw it.

Going through all the photos shot by both amateurs and experts in photography, it was a wonder how no two shots of it ever came out to be the same. In some the dog appears to be almost three dimensional, in others flat, in almost all of the pictures whether they were in color or black and white there have been strange lights and in some cases a spectral face has been seen on the right side of the portrait.

We are just being too imaginative, there cannot be anything strange about this picture of ours, insisted the husband who does not believe that the picture had some sort of entity coming along with it when he and his wife were discussing the possibility of such. Initially hanging on the wall, a large ceramic plate fell with a crash but when they say it on the floor, there was not one sign of breaking.

The owners were very pleased to loan this painting to the Innocents production, after the producer director approached them upon learning that there was something supernatural about this masterpiece, thinking that it would fit his play well as it was a story of the supernatural. They explained to him that they have never really found out who it is that moved into the house the day the portrait was purchased and maybe being used in a production such as the Innocents they might be able to find out. At the very least they are hoping this true.
