Guide Review - Gaybars.com: Gay Bar and Club Finder
Gaybars.com is a quick means to an end although the graphics and navigation are dated. Even with basic content there is an opportunity for expansion and a better user experience as the net evolves. Nonetheless, I have to give Gaybars kudos for its comprehensive listings and international finder. That is, after all, why we're searching in the first place. It would be nice to see maps of locations and perhaps club reviews as well.
Gay bars and clubs are listed by state (country for international) then categorized further by area code (which may not be such a quick find for the traveler who has only hotel stationary at his disposal). Physical addresses and phone numbers are provided for each venue and web addresses where applicable; but the days of calling for directions are old-school and looking them up on Mapquest or Google Maps is one step too many. Linking to a map and directions of locations would provide a much better user experience.
Despite the need for an upgrade, Gaybars.com is like your old Volvo.
It may not be pretty on the outside, but a couple of hundred thousand miles later it's still a dependable ride.
