Advantages of Hydroponics

14
Hydroponic gardening is by no means a new system.
In fact it is very old.
Its been around a long time because there are several advantages to using a hydroponics system.
1.
Soil diseases.
This one is almost too obvious but hydroponics is a system of water, nutrient solution and oxygenation.
There is no soil involved and so there is rarely the case of a plant becoming infected with a soil disease.
2.
Weeding.
So you were luke warm about the soil diseases advantage but you should be red hot when it comes to number 2 which is weeding.
If there is no soil then there is no way for weeds to get in and grow.
Most hydroponic systems have the added benefit of being in a controlled environment which means that weeds can't sneak in even if they could live.
3.
Growth Rate.
While each hydroponics system is different, it is considered a relatively fast way to grow plants.
The theory behind why plants grow faster in hydroponics is because by using a combination of oxygen, water and nutrient solution you can allow the roots to grow faster and stronger.
This in turn allows the plant to grow bigger.
Additionally, because there is limited use of energy to draw nutrients from the ground the plants tend to put more energy into growing.
This is particularly true with aeroponic systems.
4.
24/7/365.
You can have product all year round.
The ability to grow indoors in geographical regions with harsh winters make it a completely ideal planting situation.
You won't ever have to worry about running out or produce if you have a hydroponic garden.
I have heard plenty of hydroponic store owners and gardeners talk about how perfect it is to continuously grow herbs and spices even in the winter time.
5.
Disease.
There is generally less disease like fungus and root rot.
Most hydroponics kits bring with them the blessing of less disease over all but also because of that controlled environment the plants do not have to worry about contracting diseases as fast.
6.
Cost.
Hydroponics kits are generally expensive to begin with but they are long term investments.
By purchasing one and becoming familiar with what grows best you save on food costs, water costs and energy costs over all compared to a regular garden or buying straight from the grocery store.
I listed just a few of the advantages of a hydroponic garden.
There are many more but these are often overlooked or the main points that people like to bring up when discussing hydroponic gardens.
