Sponge Painting Instructions
- 1). Mask off anything that touches the wall--trim, floor or ceiling--with painter's masking tape. Press the tape down firmly.
- 2). Paint your walls with a latex base coat in the color of your choice. Choose eggshell, satin or semigloss paint for the best results. Let the paint dry.
- 3). Pour four parts glaze to one part sponge color paint into a paint bucket and stir thoroughly. Pour some of the glaze mixture into a paint tray. Fill a second bucket with water.
- 4). Put on some disposable gloves. Dip a sea sponge in the water bucket and wring it out. Dip the sponge into the glaze mixture and then blot the sponge on newspaper. Dab the glaze onto your wall. Use a light touch and avoid twisting the sponge while it's touching the wall. Rotate the sponge in your hand frequently so that the sponge pattern won't be too uniform. Start at the upper corner of your wall and work out and down. Work in 5-foot-square sections. Rinse out your sponge out when it gets too glaze-saturated.
- 5). Remove any excess paint from each 5-foot-square section before sponge painting the next. Wet a second, clean sea sponge and wring it out. Pat the sponge lightly against any areas where the glaze mixture is too heavy.
- 6). Let the glaze mixture dry and then remove your masking tape.
