Survivor All-Stars Episode 7: Sorry, I Blew It
The last episode ended without an Immunity Challenge or a Tribal Council, when, for the second time in Survivor All-Stars series, a player took herself voluntarily out of the game. You remember that Susan Hawk was outraged by Richard Hatch?s actions the day before, calling it a ?sexual violation,? shouting she?d been ?dehumanized? and quit before the Reward Challenge.
Episode 7 begins in Mogo Mogo camp with Jerri Manthey awakening late, complaining of her back hurting after sleeping on the ?rack.? A less than sympathetic Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien and Shii-Ann Huang discuss their feelings and dislike of Jerri?s complaints all day and all night.
They talk of voting her out. Shii-Ann in particular dislikes Jerri?s lack of a work ethic and knows that Colby Donaldson is also displeased with her.
Jerri, however, is not upset. She says she is on her own, that she?s underestimated and she is playing a non-threatening game.
Tree mail arrives in the form of a puzzle, a hint of the coming challenge that has Chapera tribe members discussing a swimming challenge. Rupert Boneham encourages them all to stay calm, stay focused and try hard. When the tribes convene, host Jeff Probst informs them that today?s challenge will be both a Reward and an Immunity Challenge.
The prize will be an off-island barbeque, with dessert and an open bar. Both tribes literally lick their chops in anticipation of this major reward. Then Jeff announces a twist: in addition to the food and drink, the winning tribe will take one person from the losing tribe with them. That person will be immune at the Tribal Council vote.
The Floating Puzzle challenge begins with each tribe member jumping, one at time, from their tribal floating platform to swim, dive down and untie various floating puzzle pieces.
Once they have all the puzzle pieces, they?ll assemble them into a boat, row it to shore. Once on shore, one castaway will run into the jungle, raise a flag and untie and gather up more paddles, then run back to the boat. With all the paddles, the tribes will row back to the platform, and winner takes all.
Chapera takes an early lead as Rob Mariano easily retrieves the first puzzle piece while Jerri struggles to untie hers. Then it?s back and forth, one tribe then the other ahead and behind, with a tie between Jenna Lewis and Ethan Zohn, then Amber Brkich pulls ahead of Lex van den Berghe to get the last puzzle piece to the platform.
Undaunted, Mogo Mogo grabs the lead in putting their puzzle boat together first and heading for shore while Chapera is still working on theirs. Ethan increases the lead running into the jungle and raises their flag first. Rob is only moments behind him, but surprisingly, is the first back to the beach.
It?s neck and neck in the race back to the platform, but suddenly, Mogo Mogo has trouble steering the boat and Chapera races on to the platform first. Chapera wins! They exchange hugs and victory yells while Mogo Mogo rest, heads down in defeat. Jeff urges Chapera to choose a Mogo Mogo member, and after consultation, Chapera chooses Kathy. Then Jeff announces the arrival of their ride off the island: a 94? luxury yatch.
