How to Fix a Dell 15 Inch LCD Monitor

2
    • 1). Look over your power and cable connections for the Dell 15-inch LCD monitor and ensure that no connections have come loose. Make sure the monitor is plugged snugly into the computer tower if you are using an external monitor with a desktop. If you have a built-in 15-inch LCD screen on a Dell laptop, ensure that the AC adapter is plugged into both the back of the laptop and into the power outlet and that it has not come loose.

    • 2). Adjust your Dell 15-inch LCD monitor's brightness. At times, monitor brightness may accidentally be set to its lowest point. Your Dell 15-inch LCD monitor will have dedicated monitor brightness settings on the bottom of its face if it is an external monitor model, or in the case of an integrated 15-inch laptop screen, your Dell laptop will have brightness keys above the numeric keys at the top of the keyboard.

    • 3). Investigate the "LCD close" switch on your Dell 15-inch LCD monitor. If your display is integrated into a Dell laptop, there will be a slight, pin-like plastic switch that acts as a sensor to determine whether your Dell laptop is opened or closed. Sometimes this switch becomes stuck in the closed position, which affects the operation of the back-light. Locate this switch--which resides directly beside the left or right display hinge of your Dell laptop model--and tap it several times with a slim object or your finger to attempt to spring it back into the "open" position.

    • 4). Check to ensure that your Dell 15-inch LCD monitor's inverter cable is in place. The inverter cable dictates the operation of the monitor's back-light. To ensure it isn't loose, locate the screws that run along the perimeter, or "bezel", of the monitor. Depending on the exact model of the monitor and whether it is free-standing or integrated into a laptop, it may have these screws on its back face or its front face, and they may or may not be covered by plastic or metallic caps for aesthetic purposes. In this case, pop the caps off and then use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove all these bezel screws.

    • 5). Pry the bezel of the Dell 15-inch LCD monitor off and locate the black inverter cable at the bottom center of the monitor. It should run and be plugged into the inverter cable connector to its left. If it's not, reconnect the cable to the connector and lock the connector down by snapping it into a horizontal position.
