How to Make Pageant Socks

24
    • 1). Wrap the measuring tape around the top elastic of one of the socks three and a half times. Note the measurement and measure and cut six pieces of organza ribbon using that length. Three pieces create the ruffle on one sock while the other three are for the opposite sock.

    • 2). Stack the three pieces of ribbon together for the first sock, matching the ends. Turn the sock inside out, fold the first 1/4 of the ribbon stack ends over and pin the ribbon stack to the section of elastic directly above the sock's heel.

    • 3). Thread your sewing machine with a color that matches the ribbon and secure the pinned section of the sock and ribbon underneath the presser foot. Sew a few straight stitches manually to prevent the ribbon and sock from slipping.

    • 4). Stretch the sock with your left hand while ensuring that the ribbon stack stays in position at the edge of the sock elastic. Stretching the sock while sewing ensures that the organza ribbon ruffles. Sew a straight stitch around the sock elastic and ribbon stack, stopping approximately 1 inch from the beginning point.

    • 5). Cut the excess ribbon, if necessary, and fold the ribbon stack ends back 1/4 inch. Sew the fold down to the sock elastic right next to the beginning ribbon fold to hide the raw edge of the ribbon pieces.

    • 6). Sew the two folded ribbon stack ends together using a zigzag stitch and cut the excess threads from the sock. Turn the sock right side out, inspect it and repeat the steps to make a second ruffled pageant sock.
