How to Cover a Base Color on a Wall When Painting With Brown
- 1). Lay out the drop cloth. Open the primer. Lay the lid aside.
- 2). Add a tablespoon of brown tint to the primer. Mix it well. Use the stir stick. Blend it until it's a single color. Add more tint if you want a darker prime coat. Don't add too much if you are painting a light brown final coat.
- 3). Cut in corners and edges. Use the brush to apply the primer. Don't worry about opacity. You may still be able to view the base color. That is fine. Roll the rest of the wall. Allow the primer to dry.
- 4). Repeat the painting process with the brown paint. One coat over a tinted primer is in many cases sufficient for a fine, opaque finish. For especially dark or high-key base colors, a second coat may be needed.
