How Can I Make an Edible Pyramid?
- 1). Build your base layer. Lay whole apples and oranges of a similar size across the bottom of your cookie sheet. The amount you use depends on how many guests you will feed.
- 2). Fill the remaining area of the cookie sheet with celery sticks, carrots, broccoli and other assorted vegetables.
- 3). Lay several layers of whole wheat crackers, muffins or another whole wheat snacks on top of the fruit, leaving 1 inch of space around the edges to create the pyramid shape.
- 4). Build your remaining layers with cubed cheese, stacking it side-by-side to cover an entire layer, leaving 1 inch of space around the edges for each new layer.
- 5). Incorporate the nuts and seeds by placing shelled sunflower seeds and roasted pumpkin seeds in a separate covered bowl to minimize chances of an allergic reaction. If you know your guests aren't allergic to nuts, incorporate them into the pyramid by drizzling them over the top of the layers.
- 6). Place healthy fats, such as olive oil based dressings for vegetables, in single serving containers in bowls to the side of the pyramid so that there is enough for guests, while indicating to the children that these are a smaller component of a healthy diet.
