American Heritage - Millenarian
About.com Rating
If song titles are any indication, the Chicago metal trio American Heritage has a good sense of humor. Their latest effort includes "Toilet Paper And Leotards," "Peckerwood" and "Piss Engine." In addition to the amusing song titles, these guys are really good musicians.
Millenarian is a powerful and intense dose of technical metal. Fuzzy riffs and complex arrangements meld into more traditional metal shredding.
There are long passages of instrumental sections punctuated by muffled yelling style vocals. The vocals are the weakest part of American Heritage's arsenal and are overshadowed by the band's musicianship.
Many comparisons have been made between American Heritage and Mastodon, and their styles are definitely similar, although American Heritage is not a clone and have their own distinctive approach.
